The site is free. Always.

Every rating, every town, every chain, every guide, free, no account, no paywall. What costs money is being told when something changes, at a scale that only matters if you are watching more than a few places.

Who pays for this, and why

About 5,100 UK food hygiene ratings change every month. If you look after one restaurant, you can check it yourself and the free tier is genuinely all you need, we would rather you used it than paid us for nothing.

Pro exists for the people who cannot: a consultant whose clients are the businesses that just dropped to a 1; an operator with forty branches and no way to know which one slipped; an insurer or a landlord for whom a tenant's rating is a risk that moves silently. For them, the cost of finding out late is measured in customers, not pounds.

What Pro is not

It is not a way to change a rating. Nothing is. A rating is set by a council's environmental health officer and published by the Food Standards Agency; we only read it. No amount of money moves it, not ours, not the business's.

We do not sell your email address, and we do not accept payment from food businesses to influence what a page says. More about how this site works →

Questions

Do I need an account to use the site?

No. Every page, all 609,653 venues, every town, every chain, every guide, is free and open with no account at all. An account exists only so we know where to send an alert.

How does a magic link work?

You give us an email address; we send a link. That link is your account. There is no password to remember, no password to reset, and no password of yours for us to lose.

How often will you email me?

At most once a day, and only when something you watch has actually changed. Everything that moved goes in one message. A rating changes when a business is re-inspected, which for most places is somewhere between every six months and every two years.

Can I cancel?

Any time, with no notice and no minimum term. Your watchlist stays; it simply falls back to the free limit.

Where does the data come from?

The Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland, under the Open Government Licence. We add the history: the FSA publishes only a business's current rating, so what it scored before exists only because we have been recording it.

Prices in pounds sterling, including VAT where applicable. Data from the Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland under the Open Government Licence.
